Shovel's "OFF"

Oh the Shovel Game!!! This is my shovel…it was given to me on the very first day of training with a name. It is a game that all of the RA’s at Residence are playing. The name that we got was the name of the person who we were trying to catch without their shovel. If we caught our person without their shovel then we had to say “Shovel’s Off” to that person and they were now out of the game, and we then got their person to chase after. You have to have your shovel at all times….the game has been going now for almost 3 weeks and I have gotten out 4 people…I am now in the final 4.!!!! It is amazing…because I made an alliance with two other people and it is almost at the point where it is just the three of us left!! We said we would make it to the bitter end and we almost have!!! WOOT WOOT…GO TEAM!!!!

Residence Move In

Finally...a moment to do a post. I have been back in Edmonton now since the 19th of August and it has been a heck of a ride so far. As soon as I walked off the plane I came straight to Residence for the premier of training. That led two weeks of intense and fun training. We started at 8am everyday and then were done at 10pm every night. We had every single meal together and spent all our time together so now we're nice and close. We had socials in the evening that consisted of a movie, swimming, laser tag and much much more. It was really awesome. Now that training is over we had move in day on saturday and oh my goodness was it ever busy. We had 700 students move in, in a matter of 8 hours...very hectic. My floor loved the fact that our theme is popsicles vs. palm trees and they loved the popsicles that I left in their freezers, so I was very happy. For the first week of classes and such..everyone is on duty until 4am or 2am at night...I have only gotten about 8 hours of sleep in the last 3 days...mmmm, coffee!!!! But everything is good and first day of classes went okay...so all is good here in my world. Leave me a comment and let me know how you are doing!!!

Power Outage

Tonight at Res, the power went out! Usually you'd think in a big city, when the power goes out, that it'll come back on within like 5 or 10 minutes, but no...tonight the power was out from 8:10 until like 5 minutes ago(8:56). This is worse than Inuvik, back home the power would go out like 50 times in a year but they always got it back up and running within like 10-15 minutes! Yeah, a new record for me in a power outage! It was nice for one thing it gave me a break from my homework. I had just sat down to eat supper and watch some tv as I have been doing homework for the past 7 hours and the stupid power decided to go (SOB!!!)! But now that it's back on, I can return to that lovely homework that has just been waiting for me for the last 45 minutes. Oh Joy!

Thanksgiving Weekend

Thanksgiving is the time of year when we are supposed to be thankful and we're supposed to shove our faces full of turkey and everything that goes along with it! Well ok, my thanks go out to my parents, because they are the best people in the world. They would do anything for myself or my brothers and really, they have already done too much! Also I am thankful for a wonderful boyfriend who is completely awesome, and for snow, because although we don't have any yet, snow is a lot of fun! For everyone else, make sure to eat some turkey and pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes, and stuffing...mmm!!! Tomorrow I'm going to Camrose with Luke to his sister's place for thanksgiving dinner,and I really can't wait. Remember to be thankful and also remember to take a nap after eating your dinner because turkey can make you really tired!

WTF?

Hey y'all,

I would just like to let everyone know that I am still alive and kicking, but extremely busy! I haven't barely had the chance to sleep in the past month, let alone blog! Which really does make me sad, because I like posting, but when the time doesn't come around it really sucks! In approximately 3 1/2 weeks, I shall be in field placement, and my workload should HOPEFULLY be a lot less. As for right now, I have an assignment, a workshop, a presentation, or lab every day from now until the 28th of October...so I guess I'll be seeing y'all at a later date!

Grant MacEwan

Its the start of another school year and today is actually my second day of classes. Everything so far has been just information about the courses, and getting things organized with the instructors and yourself. Yesterday I bought my books, paid my tuition, got my student ID and made some new friends. I am pretty excited and a little scared at the same time. In one of my classes, our first assignment is a FOUR PAGE essay. I have never written a four page anything in my life. This worries me a little, but I'm sure that I'll be okay.

This year I'm also living in the brand new Grant MacEwan Residence and so far it's awesome. I am almost all unpack and set up for the year. I still have some things that I would like to put up on my walls so it's no so bare, but as of right now, I haven't found the time. In my “apartment” or dorm if you will, there are two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchenette and a dining area. Its actually really neat, because I have my own space but I also get the experience of living with another person who isn't a family member or someone I already knew. Well here's to another school year, and for anyone else in school...have a fantastic year, and never forget that alcohol, coke and staying up all night solve every problem;)

It's All About Kids - Daycare

This monday I will be starting my 50 hour practicum for my Child Care Level 1. I am doing it at a daycare located downtown in the Edmonton Journal Building, so i'm extremely excited. I took a tour of the daycare this morning and met the caregivers, as well as the director. It looks to be a very well organized and safe place in terms of a daycare. I will be working in the 4-5 year old room from 1 until 3 and then from 3 until 6 I will be in with the young toddlers. I'm just so glad everything is falling into place before I go home...and the director even mentioned that if things go well and I want a job next fall they would be willinging to offer me a position. So I thought that was pretty neat. I just can't wait to meet the kids and get started. The two weeks are going to fly by so fast...and then its home time ;)

Child Care - Level 1

Today, in like 45 minutes I start my new course, Child Care Level 1. This is pretty much an introduction into my major of Early Childhood Development. I am extremely excited, and cannot wait for my biology class to end so that i can finally start in my new class. Child Care 1 will give me the qualifications to work in a daycare or to be an assisstant in a preschool or kindergarden class. I absolutely love little kids, and can't wait to work with them, and to be able to understand them just a little bit better. When I go home for the summer, I am going to be working with the Day Camps, and will be a camp instructor/camp consellor. I hope that I get to do something outside with the kids, like swimming or fishing or camping. That would be extremely cool. Well, wish me luck as I know venture off into the next part of my exsistance. I will leave y'all an update later today to let you know how things went.

A Million dollars?

What would y'all do, if you had a million dollars to spend on anything that you wanted? Would you travel, donate it to charity, put it towards school, or would you become materialistic, and buy houses and cars and such? I myself, would have to say, I would make sure that my schooling was paid for, and then I would travel. I would travel all around the world and experience all of the different cultures that you don't get to see everyday, and just take my time. I might take a year to do it, just to make sure that I hit every continent and tons of countries. I would also make sure that I started a college fund for any children that I might have in the future. And last but not least I would buy a house, I would make it my own and make sure that I have what I needed for the future. Oh and btw, I would continue working, after my world tour, I would make sure to go back to work, because if I didn't, I would probably go stir crazy.

Scott Tournament of Hearts

Living with my grandparents, you get to watch, understand, and get ALL the updates on curling, golf and whatever other boring sport is out there. Well, on a good note, just wanted to say…GO Yukon/NWT. The Scott tournament of Hearts is going on in Newfoundland/Labrador this year. And while Colleen Jones of team Canada has won 4 consecutive years in a row, this year may be somewhat different. While eating supper tonight we were watching the Yukon/NWT and New Brunswick game. In the end Yukon/NWT won and they are now with a standing of 2 to 1, and are now tied for the 3rd, position. As for the rest,
